The ministries of the church are ever-evolving. We have the traditional aspects of the church, like Sunday School and Fellowship meals. We are expanding our ministries to include small group gatherings and informal times of study and prayer. Our ministries are determined by the needs of the congregation and the community. If something does not fit into your schedule, or there is a desire to try something different, we are open to your suggestions. We simply desire to reach as many people as possible and walk together as we journey with Christ.
"Make a joyful noise to God, all the earth; sing the glory of His name; give to him glorious praise." -Psalm 66:1
We are blessed to have Carolyn Sargent to lead us in music at First Christian Church. To prepare for Sunday morning worship, the choir rehearses on Sundays afternoons following worship from 1:45- 2:30 pm. Choir enhances worship and offers us a way to make a joyful noise unto the Lord. (The choir takes a break during the summer; however, special music will be welcomed.)
Christian Women's Fellowship (CWF) meets the 1st Monday of each month, at 6:30 pm, for fellowship & study. Any women, high school age and up, are welcome to attend. CWF also collects and provides scholarships for children to attend our TBA Camp programs and other charitable causes. The first meeting will be October 2, 2017.
Disciples Men Fellowship (DMF) meets on a quarterly basis for fellowship and study. Any men, school age and up are welcome to attend. DMF gathers with other Disciples Men in the TBA for mission work.
The Wednesday night Crochet group meets each Wednesday, at 6:00 pm, for crocheting and fellowship. This group is open to anyone who desires to learn or improve their crocheting skills while providing a ministry to those in need. The group sews their skills to support a variety of ministries: like prayer shawls, homeless mats, prenatal octopus, and gifts.
Spiritual Disciplines is a small group worship study which meets Wednesday, at 7:00 pm. We intentionally focus on the message of the evening through song, prayer, conversation, and communion. We also take up a small collection for our transportation ministry - to provide funds for families who need to see immediate family members in the DFW area hospitals. The group is open to anyone who desires to engage in the intersection of the Bible and real life. This year we are following the book, "We Make the Road By Walking," by Brian McLaren.
Children are full of mystery, wonder, and play. We provide a safe, clean, and educational environment and staff to help your children grow in faith in Jesus Christ. We provide a nursery, staffed by Billie Mercer, for infants to preschool and young children just learning how to socialize and be in the care of someone other than their parents. The nursery children can hear the worship service in the sanctuary while they play.
On Sunday mornings at 9:30, for children in Kindergarten through 5th grade, we offer Godly Play, a curriculum that invites children to learn about God, the stories of Jesus, and church through hearing the story, playing with the story, and expressing their feelings of the story through art. This is a great faith-formation program for your child(ren)!
We do not dismiss children from our regular worship services. We believe children who experience and observe worship will grow in wonder and meaning as they grow older. However, there is a nursery for smaller children whose parents who desire to use it. We provide a Youth Bulletin where older children are asked to think about and write out their thoughts during worship. We want them to understand how their religious life is practiced. We also provide children's worship activity bags so your child(ren) can observe worship, follow along at an age-appropriate level, and stay engaged during the worship experience.
Vacation Bible School is held during the summer break from school. We will advertise the new VBS program as soon as possible for 2018.
Last year, we had a great time going to Rome. Thank you to our 40+ volunteers that showed up, dressed the part, and taught the love of God to the children.
Youth are a vital part of First Christian Church. Youth serve in various capacities in worship and in missions.
First Sunday of August and February, 10:20 am, Sanctuary. On the spot training is done too. Older children and adults are invited to participate in worship by "carrying" the Light of Christ into the sanctuary as we begin to worship and out of the sanctuary as we leave worship to be the Light of Christ in the world.
Currently, we are redeveloping our youth outreach programs. As we continue to grow, we will develop this group to meet the needs of our youth and their families.
We encourage our Youth from 4th - 12th grades to attend the Trinity Brazos Area Summer Camps and Retreats at Disciples Crossing in Athens, Texas.
